Peugeot Opens Up With Ready-for-road 307CC
It's the 307 that's pure heaven for sun seekers. Peugeot has released
official pictures ahead of the 307 CC's unveiling at the Geneva Motor
Show.
Seen for the first time with the roof up and down, the stunner has stuck closely to the styling of the concept displayed at last autumn's Paris show. As the only model in this sector with an electrically folding hard-top, it is tipped to be a hit. The profile is similar to that of the smaller 206 CC, but the more handsome front of the 307 and a tidy rear create a distinctive-looking cab-riolet. LED-style tail-lights remain from the concept as another classy touch.
The worst feature of the 206 CC is its lack of interior space - the rear seats are suitable only for children - but Peugeot promises buyers the 307 version will have enough room in the back for two adults. In addition, the cabin has been lifted straight from the conventional hatchback model, which means owners can enjoy a user-friendly layout and good-quality plastics throughout.
To add a feeling of luxury, a full leather interior is an optional extra, while higher specification models will come with part-leather trim as standard. Peugeot's engineering team reckons that buyers can look forward to an enjoyable driving experience, mainly thanks to a lowered and strengthened chassis. The company has worked hard on reducing scuttle shake when the roof is down, a problem often associated with drop-tops. Safety equipment includes roll bars which pop up behind the rear seats.
Only two engines will be available initially, both with 2.0-litre capacities. The first is the 138bhp version, which is already used in the 206 GTi, while range-topping models will come with a powerplant tuned to produce a potent 180bhp. This unit will also appear under the bonnet of the 206 GTi 180. An entry-level 110bhp 1.6-litre engine is set to join the range later, together with the popular 2.0 HDi turbodiesel.
The 307 CC is due to arrive at Peugeot dealerships in the summer, and will be priced from £15,000-£18,500.
