Based on the top-of-the-range version of the 307 CC and fitted with an engine developing 180 bhp, the 307 WRC is Peugeot's next weapon, its destiny being to replace the 206 WRC car – a motorsport legend that has taken Peugeot to three consecutive titles. Although heavier than the saloon, like any coupé cabriolet the 307 CC requires a certain number of stiffeners. The 307 WRC project also benefited from the new regulations which increased the minimum allowable weight of the body to 320 kg. The 307 WRC is bound to create a sensation in the world of rally racing thanks to its advanced technology and the still formidable competitive capacity of the 206 WRC, which has enabled the Peugeot Sport team to perfect the 307 WRC before unleashing this new weapon on the world of championship racing.

DESIGNED AND DEVELOPED AT THE PEUGEOT SPORT FACTORY

Preplanning studies began 15 months ago, which means it took Peugeot’s engineers and technicians nearly 400 days to create this third generation race car. The wheels of the 307 WRC made their first revolutions seven long months after the project began. Since then the test sessions have become more frequent.

A COMPLETELY NEW RALLY RACE CAR

Apart from the platform used and the car’s exterior styling, the Peugeot 307 WRC has several technical innovations. The gearbox – a Hewland 5-speed – sits transversely coupled to the rear of the engine, unlike the longitudinal mounting on the 206 WRC. A conical counter gear situated behind the center differential transmits power to the rear wheels. The three differentials - front, center and rear - are electronically controlled. Another new feature is the use of the XU7JP4 engine block. This all-aluminum unit 2.0-litre engine develops a maximum power of around 300 bhp at 5,250 rpm with torque of 530 Nm at 3,500 rpm.
