Coupe Cabriolet set to enliven stable
European Automobiles, the authorised distributor of Peugeot, is set to inject more appeal to its local model line-up with the 307CC.
After carving a niche with the smaller 206CC more than a year ago, it hopes to repeat that feat by introducing the Coupe Cabriolet version of the 307 at the Motor Expo car show at the end of this year.
Since prices of the 206CC have nudged two million baht, expect the 307CC to cost at least 2.5 million baht.
``Even so, we believe that the 307CC can attract niche car buyers in Thailand. People who buy Minis and (Volkswagen) Beetles at similar prices want something different. This is where we can find potential customers (for the 307CC),'' said one executive.
As seen in these official pictures, the 307CC has hardly changed from the concept version shown in Paris last year. The production version was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show last month.
Peugeot sees the 307CC as a crucial car for the European car market where a flurry of cabriolets are being launched. Arch-rival Renault has followed suit by fitting a steel-folding roof to the latest model of the Megane.
Unlike in the smaller 206CC, the 307CC can seat four adults in comfort. Despite maintaining the general proportions of the hatchback version, the 307CC seats are 40mm lower. Thus the car's height is lowered for a sleeker exterior appearance.
Peugeot claims that the 307CC has the safety credentials to match the latest requirements in the industry. The A-pillars and head restraints have been reinforced, while safety equipment include front and side airbags, and all the electronics governing brakes and chassis.
Two engines are available initially, including the 136hp 2.0-litre engine that is also being offered with a Tiptronic-style automatic gearbox. This powertrain is most likely to come to Thailand.
The other version is a retuned unit of the 2.0-litre petrol head pumping out a higher 180hp and forms the basis of the GTi range of cars. Only manual gearbox is available and would only be imported on an order-by-order basis.
Stand-out interior trimmings include drilled alloy pedal and gearlever, and part-leather upholstery.
