The car, which has been in development for 15 months, first turned on wheel on December 24th 2002, and has since been driven by Marcus Gronholm, Richard Burns and Peugeot's full-time test drivers Cedric Robert and Andrea Aghini. It will be officially revealed to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2003 next month.

The car will benefit from a new 5 speed Hewland gearbox, which is located at the rear of the engine in a transverse position, contrary to the one on the 206 WRC which is in a longitudinal position, plus a new two-litre 300bhp engine, originally fitted to the larger 406.
